Subject: Heartbeat #12 From Team 3
Date: 11/22/02
1. Task Status:
a. Done with revision of the methodology drafts, they are now all
together and follow the same format.
b. Done with homework #7. Specific parts were done individually.
Dalat spent time pulling the paper together while Chris spent time pulling
the Appendix and Presentation slides together.
c. About 70-80% of the project is done. We are now at a stand still
until we can get results. (See section 5 for more details)
d. Met with Ralph on Friday afternoon to go over some of the testing,
but the Cisco 10K had just come in, and he was busy with that. We
decided to let them review the drafts and send comments by e-mail.
It was also made known that the setup in the lab had not been put
together, and might not get to be for this weekend when many of the group
members were thinking of running tests.
e. Met on Tuesday with Kumar and Ralph to demo how to run the tools and to
briefly go over the project's status.
Below is the schedule file:

Very likely, we're not able to get the badges to
access the lab on Centennial campus 24/7, which does not give us
flexibility to learn about the AC devices and test the test cases
(see the problem section for more info.)

Revising the drafts is
getting more technical. Thus we'll have to spend a lot of time
"thinking" and reviewing the RFCs, especially at
technical sections. Since other classes demand the same amount of
work and many of us are under the pressure of finding jobs, this
can make the situation become very stressful - hopefully none of
us will become crazy by the end of the semester :( |

Many of us have come to
the point in the semester where tests and projects are due.
Finding time to get to centenial campus and finish up the project
is becoming a problem. |

4. Problem List:
- The setup has still not been put together, and our offer to come in
and help has been overlooked or ignored.
- We still do not have any form of lab access unless Ralph or Kumar let
us in.
- Lab access after work hours and during weekend is not possible (see
section 5 for more details.)
5. Any other issues you wish to report, raise, address, ...
We have exchanged several emails with Kumar and Ralph about the
availability of the equipments and lab access after work hours. (We would
like to be able to access the lab at night and/or during weekends -- all
of us have classes during the day at different time that it is only
convenient for us to access the lab during weekend or at night -- so that
we can write up the test cases and try them out). Through their replies
they cannot let us access the lab at the requested hours. Because of these
reasons, they suggest that we will just need to concentrate on writing the
methodologies, and then writing the test cases and testing them out will
be a bonus. They also indicated that they'll be very happy to talk to the
Instructor(s) about this problem. Since we don't have many choices, we
will just have to do what they suggest. For now, unless we have new
directions from our Instructor, we will just concentrate on writing solid
methodologies.
However, we do not see how we can make the methodology very solid
without trying out some things on even a Cisco 7200VXR. We have
offered to setup this equipment, and have even said that we would work on
it during the weekend remotely since there appears to be a shortage of
equipment. A meeting
with Dr. Vouk is being arranged this evening for Monday afternoon to go
over these and other concerns about the project that will quite probably effect how
much work we have to do in the next two week and even over Thanksgiving
break.
